HERE:NOW (2023)

When something long slumbering within you stirs to life, what happens when it opens its eyes and finds that you are now someone else entirely?

HERE:NOW is a 12-minute live and recorded dance piece with themes of identity, loss, isolation and joy. Accompanying the live dancer is a collection of audio clips from interviews with female-identifying people who have a strong connection to nature, played alongside a dreamy forest projection.

"...And Then John Farted And Everybody Died." (2025)

Eclectic, funny & unapologetically weird.

A Cabaret-style anthology show combining dance, text, music and drag into a raucous comedy about the uniquely human experience of embarrassing ourselves. Inspired by her dad Funky Steve – who believes his best friend John’s farts are so bad, we may all die from the smell – Jenna is on a mission to embarrass us all. With the threat of John farting any minute, we need your true stories of the mortifying moments of your lives, don’t hold back!

Performed as part of Switch Festival & Key Nights '24 and Key Theatre's Welcome Weekender, May 2025.

The Noted Liar (2022)

A collection of stories from people living in rural Fenland, physically retold by folkloric characters, including a half-cow half-woman, a dancing light and a cheeky little wood-nymph.

Created during a Metal New Artist Residency at Metal Peterborough and continued during a Studio 459 residency in Tomar, Portugal.

Developing a Methodology

In 2024, Jenna was awarded a Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) grant from Arts Council England.

During the course of her learning, Jenna undertook four residencies exploring a combination of her strongest art form, dance, and one other creative interest:

Dance and Dyspraxia with Aby Watson, Dr Kate Marsh and Jay Gearing at Wainsgate Chapel.

Dance and Text with Sam Plumb, Bar Groisman and William Townsend at Cambridge Junction.

Dance and Visual Arts with Caroline Wendling and Selena Chandler at Studio 459, Portugal.

Dance and Technology with Soul Roberts at Dance East. With LED design provided by SLR Games and Pulsar.

Vice Versa Dance Theatre Company

Founded by Jodie Sully, a dancing actor, and Jenna Unwin, an acting dancer, VVDT fused art forms to create socially engaged theatre productions, including works commissioned by Cambridge Assessment and presented at The Cockpit Theatre. Although Jenna and Jodie no longer run VVDT, they still boogie together.
